Low level LASER is also called LASER biostimulation or cold LASER therapy. LASER light can stimulate the healing by your cells.

LASER has been used for treating many conditions. It speeds up the natural healing of sprains, strains, fractures, burns, bruises, wounds and skin infections. It also helps with some viral infections (including ones that affect the nerves, such as shingles). We have had good results with decreasing pain and inflammation.

The LASER directly affects the cell by a photochemical mechanism. These changes alter the cell membrane permeability, instruct the cell's mitochondria to produce more energy for the cell and tell the cell's ribonucleic acid (RNA) to make proteins used for repair. In addition to the cells' responses, the pain receptors in the are are "turned off" to decrease the pain. Endorphins (pain inhibitors released by the brain) are also stimulated by LASER therapy.

What to expect with LASER treatments:

Dr. Zyweck will need to exam you to understand the underlying conditions of your health concerns and to make sure LASER is an appropriate therapy. LASER therapy requires 2-3 brief visits per week for 3-6 weeks. During your treatments, your progress will be evaluated and you will either be discharged from care or a new care plan will be designed as needed.
